Woes for Wales

Stevo expects England to run rampant in Leigh

Stevo Posted 28th October 2011 view comments

With the greatest respect to Wales I just cannot see them winning a game.

I know that we want to expand our game on the international scene and that it is vital for the likes of Wales, and Papua New Guinea last year, to take part in the Four Nations.

PNG really shook England last year in Auckland and forced England to dig deep to win. I am hoping that Wales do the same thing and against England why not? I can see Wales working very hard for the first 20 or 30 minutes but when you stretch it out to the full 80 minutes I just don't think Wales will have the experience or the depth to stop England.

Sinfield: the man to pull England's strings

Sinfield: the man to pull England's strings

Wales coach Iestyn Harris will certaily get his team all fired up and skipper Lee Briers is a very classy player indeed. However, I think he just hasn't got the players around him who will play off him and support him.

England were up and down against France last week which was to be expected.

A lot of people have turned their noses up at the fact that England have brought in Jack Reed and Chris Heighington. I think all the new boys from Australia will feel better for having that run out against France and they will be much more confident against Wales.

I hope that Steve McNamara gives Chase the room to move and let him play his natural game. He plays off the cuff and it would be a bit foolish if you tried to put him into set patterns because that is just not his game.

Rather cheekily a few fans have also started to call Rangi Chase "Roger Chase" which is rather tongue in cheek. Chase was impressive against France though and I am sure that would have pleased the England fans.

I hope that Steve McNamara gives Chase the room to move and let him play his natural game. He plays off the cuff and it would be a bit foolish if you tried to put him into set patterns because that is just not his game. His game is asking questions and keeping the defence on their toes.

England skipper Jamie Peacock leads by example and crunches up the middle. He is getting back to his best and he will set the platform. He knows that Rangi - or should we say Roger - can split any defence. Let Chase get on with his own thing and leave the structure, the attacking skill factor and the decision to kick to Kevin Sinfield.

KEY MAN: Kevin Sinfield is a key man for England. It is no fluke that he has been so instrumental in Leeds' success over the last five seasons or so. I do hope that England allow Sinfield to become the boss on the field and control the game.

STEVO SAYS: I just cannot see Wales winning this game and they could be on the end of a hiding. Yes they will play with pride and passion but can they sustain that over the full 80 minutes? If England can get the structure right then I think that they can really shine.
