Nicola Sanders:

Blue sky thinking

Nicola looking forward to some Stellenbosch sun!

I have been back in training for several weeks now after my end of season break and just starting to get over the soreness of being back on the track.

This is when you really have to put the hard work into training but on the plus side the weather has not been too bad and I have my warm weather camp to look forward too. Hopefully I get away before it gets really cold and miserable.

But until then we are doing all the donkey work - the longer runs on the track and on the grass, and spending a lot of time in the weights room. It is not the best thing to do but it is vital we do this hard graft now - once that is done and we have our base and strength sorted, then it's a case of working on getting faster and faster.

I would say my least favourite sessions are the 6 X 300's that we have to do. However it is probably the best one for my event so I kind of have to get it done - everyone dreads that one when it comes up.

I was delighted to hear that I have kept my UK Athletics funding - that was a big boost for my confidence. It is great to have the backing of the federation and nice to know I will have all their support leading up to the most important time in my life.

I have not been able to do too much away from the track - I never do in the first few weeks back because I am so tired! However as I am going away on my warm weather training just before Christmas I do try and catch up with as many friends as possible.

At this time of year everyone seems to have a cold or a sniffle and my Mum always makes sure I have my first defence at the ready just in case anyone sneezes! Most of my friends won't come near me if they have a cold though - which is nice of them. Usually we catch up over dinner or we go to the cinema.

There are a lot of movies that have just come out based on books that I have read - The Help, We need to talk about Kevin and One Day. I really enjoy reading and one of my prized possessions is my Kindle. I still love picking up a book but when you go off to warm weather training (did I mention I am going??) you cannot take enough books with you and that is when the kindle is brilliant.

Well it's been a hard days training and I think America's Next Top Model is on so I will just cross off another day until I head to my warm weather training and say cheerio until next time.
