The new Oriam sports complex in Edinburgh has been delivered on time and within budget ahead of its official opening on Monday.

Built at a cost of £33m, including £9m of funding from sportscotland, Heriot-Watt University and Edinburgh City Council, it features a range of sport, sport science and medical facilities.

As well as an full size indoor synthetic pitch, there are outdoor football and rugby parks, eight squash courts, a smaller indoor pitch and a fitness suite.

A number of organisations will use Oriam including the Scottish Football Association, Scottish Rugby, Basketball Scotland, Scottish Handball, Netball Scotland and Scottish Squash and Racquetball.

In addition, Scottish Championship side Hibernian plan to play their U20 fixtures there this season and hosted a 2-2 draw with city rivals Hearts in front of a crowd of 400 on Tuesday afternoon.

Catriona McAllister, Oriam's Chief Executive, said: "We are absolutely thrilled Oriam is ready to open after all partners helped to deliver the project on time and on budget.

"It is now all about the sports and delivering that platform both for national excellence and local participation.

"Oriam is something all of Scotland should be extremely proud of and the response from each and every person who has toured the site since it completion confirms a truly world-class facility has been delivered.

"Oriam will provide an inspirational environment for our top athletes and those who aspire to excel from across many sports, as well as within our local community by encouraging people to improve their fitness, take part in sport or simply enjoy a more active lifestyle."
