Defoe is set to make a swift return to action at Newmarket this weekend after being supplemented for Saturday's Dunaden Jockey Club Stakes.

Roger Varian's grey won four races on the bounce last season before failing to fire when well fancied for the St Leger at Doncaster.

He got his career back on track when making a successful start to the new campaign in the John Porter at Newbury, however, and will have his sights raised to Group Two level on the Rowley Mile after being added to the Jockey Club Stakes at a cost of #6,000.

Defoe will face a maximum of seven rivals in the mile-and-a-half contest.

His potential opponents are Algometer, Count Octave, Danehill Kodiac, Khalidi, Master The World, Red Verdon and Titi Makfi.

Breeders' Cup heroine Wuheida takes star billing in the Charm Spirit Dahlia Stakes the following afternoon.

Charlie Appleby's filly struck at Group One level for the second time when seeing off Rhododendron in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf and is set to make her first appearance since on Sunday after being supplemented, again at a cost of #6,000.
