Jessica Harrington and Colm O'Donoghue capped a memorable week with the victory of St Brelades Bay in the feature at Gowran Park on Sunday.

The dual-purpose trainer saddled Alpha Centauri to a record-breaking success in the Coronation Stakes and also saw Torcedor put up a career-best effort in third in the Gold Cup.

While those riches were not on offer in the seven-furlong www.gowranpark.ie Handicap, it was still a nice prize to win and St Brelades Bay ground it out bravely.

Turbine emerged from the pack as the major challenger but he had to settle for runner-up spot, just like on his last outing at Limerick, going down by half a length.

"I never really know when he's going to do it and that's the first time he's won over seven furlongs," said Harrington.

"He's in great order this year and it suited him the way the race was run. They went real hard up in front, and once they come back he thinks it's great.

"He got nearly a length up and then I wasn't sure if he was going to get caught again.

"He loves top of the ground, and he didn't really fancy it going around Sligo the other day. He would nearly turn around and talk to you. He's also a lead-horse and is very good at that."
