A review of the pick of Friday's action from Musselburgh, where jockey Danny Cook rode a double.

Blades Lad held off fast-finishing Carters Rest by a neck in the featured handicap chase at Musselburgh on Friday to complete a double for Danny Cook, who had earlier struck with Cosmic Tigress.

Winning trainer Peter Niven, who rode at the inaugural jumps card here on January 5, 1987, said: "He jumped nicely and I'm really pleased with that. His owners have been really patient with him and, as he's still a young horse, he might have a bright future."

Chris Grant, also a jockey on that Musselburgh card 28 years ago, saddled bumper winner Kalaniti ridden by Diarmuid O'Regan.

The Billingham trainer said: "She was bought in Ireland and is a grand mare. She's a raw type but is going the right way and improving race by race."

Touch Of Steel may be quirky but he routed his rivals under a nice front-running ride from Dale Irving in the opening conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle.

Winning trainer James Ewart said: "Dale won on him twice at Kelso earlier in the autumn and he is a horse that gets fizzed up.

"We have to bring him separately to the races as he needs to be tacked up late and come in the paddock late just to make things as less stressful as possible for him. Having said all that he has a big frame and could make a nice novice chaser."

Andrew Lynch rode his first winner at the East Lothian venue on Chitu, a four-length scorer for Stuart Crawford in the maiden hurdle.

"I seem to recall coming here a few years ago to ride for Ian Ferguson so it's nice to finally have a winner," Lynch said. "It's a grand track and handy enough to get to as it's just a short journey from Edinburgh airport."

The winner carries the colours of Aberdeen-based Graham Slesser.
