Hawkbill is set to have just one more run this season after his winning sequence came to an abrupt end at York.

Godolphin's star three-year-old colt could not handle the quick conditions in the Juddmonte International as he finished well beaten behind Postponed.

Hawkbill, who had won his previous six starts which culminated in Coral-Eclipse glory at Sandown, will probably run in either the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 10 or the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot on October 15.

"He is great. Coming out of the race we now know that he quite clearly needs a bit of cut in the ground," said Appleby.

"He is in the Irish Champion Stakes and the Champion Stakes at Ascot. Wherever there is soft ground, he will go.

"If conditions at Leopardstown are not right we will wait and go for Champions Day.
