Hannon star dazzles on the gallops

Canford Cliffs impressed in a Kempton gallop on Thursday ahead of Tuesday's Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Richard Hannon's colt won the Lockinge Stakes on his reappearance and has been pleasing connections since. He will now face stiffer opposition as he looks to defeat French wondermare Goldikova, a feat that his stablemate Paco Boy couldn't manage 12 months ago. Richard Hannon Jnr, assistant trainer to his father, told At The Races:"He worked superbly and we're very pleased with him. "He was fairly lit up this morning, he wasn't silly but he was hard on the bridle - just as you'd like him. "We now go flat out for the Queen Anne, or Goldikova to be specific." The Tagula colt has won his last four starts, all at the top level, and Hannon Jnr expects the stable star to come on for his Lockinge win. "You can see physically that he has improved and we always knew he would come on for Newbury. "But he will have to as he's taking on better horses and he'll have to travel well at Ascot as I imagine they'll go very hard early on. "I think Canford Cliffs is our best chance of a winner at the meeting," he added. Meanwhile stablemate Dick Turpin is on target to join Canford Cliff's in Tuesday's Royal Ascot opener, after checks following his poor run in the Prix D'Ispahan at Longchamp came back positive. "We've left him in - we've done tests on his blood and a tracheal wash and they came back ok. "There's evey chance he'll run but we'll discuss it with (owner) John Manley first."
