Hannon charge fine after Royal run

Connections have decided to give Dubawi Gold a break following a below-par performance in the St James's Palace Stakes. Connections rode the English and Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up more aggresively at Royal Ascot and he finished a well-beaten sixth of the nine runners. Tim Jones, racing manager to owner Andrew Tinkler, said: "He's fine and has come out of Ascot well, but we're going to give him a bit of time before his next run and freshen him up. "He's been running every three weeks since the end of March and while he's in good shape, he could probably do with a bit of a break. "We changed the tactics a bit at Ascot and tried to ride him a bit closer to Frankel, but it didn't work out.

Tactics wrong

"If we'd ridden him like we did in the Guineas he'd probably have finished a lot closer, but we had to give it a go. It's no good not trying these things. "We know he's a good horse so we'll freshen him up and make some plans. "If we go back to riding him like we did at Newmarket, I think it's only a matter of time before he wins a big one."
