The Queen's stayer to return to Knavesmire

Tactician could bid to improve on his excellent York record by returning to the Knavesmire for the totesport Ebor. The four-year-old, owned by the Queen, took a dress rehearsal for the prestigious and valuable Heritage Handicap on August 20 in pleasing style on Saturday. Tactician had run well on his previous start over the course and distance in the Melrose Handicap last August when second to Mount Athos. "He's come out of the race very well. He's in good form and I suppose we'll have a close look at the Ebor and see the weights etc," said trainer Michael Bell. "Bearing in mind he's run very well both times he's run there it's a logical race to go for. "I'd say similar sort of horses from Saturday's race will turn up for the Ebor. Obviously he'll be a bit higher up in the handicap and he was given a particularly good ride. "It won't be easy, but he'll be one of the market leaders and it will be an exciting race to go for."
