Williams star seeking deserved win

Betfred Cambridgeshire runner-up Stevie Thunder heads back to Newmarket for the inaugural running of the £18,000 Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Conditions Stakes on Wednesday. Ian Williams' charge ran a superb race when going down by a length and three-quarters to Prince Of Johanne in the prestigious nine-furlong heritage handicap last month. The six-year-old had previously posted a pair of handicap wins in the summer, including when easily scoring over a mile in the Grants Whisky Handicap on Newmarket's July Course on July 29. Williams commented: "Stevie Thunder ran the best race of his career in the Betfred Cambridgeshire and he has been on an upward curve for the final part of this season. Opportunities are limited for him and so we are giving him a chance in conditions company. "We couldn't have known before the Betfred Cambridgeshire that he was drawn on the wrong side (stall five) but the whole group came over to the stands' rail and left him stranded out on his own, so he came across and joined them. "I don't know what we will do with him with him this winter as I don't think that he is particularly well handicapped over hurdles and heading out to Dubai could be an option. "He has had a good end to the season and it will be interesting to see how he copes on his first start out of handicap company. It looks a tough task on paper but sometimes a form horse can beat a better horse who has been disappointing." Champion jockey Paul Hanagan takes the ride on Stevie Thunder for the first time.
