Malton ace misses Breeders' Cup bid

Red Duke will not run at the Breeders' Cup meeting next month following his disappointing effort in the Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. Trainer John Quinn scrapped plans to take his Group Two winner to Churchill Downs for the Breeders' Cup as he felt the colt is showing the effects of a tough campaign. "It's been a pretty disappointing few days behind the scenes for the team as our top two-year-old Red Duke has started to show all the signs of a horse who is feeling the effects of a long year," the North Yorkshire trainer told www.johnquinnracing.co.uk. "It would be unfair of me to take the colt and his owners half-way around the world to run when I feel he may not be up to performing to his best. "It is for this reason I've decided it best to rest him now for the winter and look towards a three-year-old campaign in the UK and abroad. "I'm sure he will come back as good as ever and repay our faith in him."
