Middleham Park ace to have delayed season

Junior is unlikely to be seen until the build up to the John Smith's Grand National, as connections believe he is poorly handicapped over fences. Connections of the David Pipe-trained eight-year-old want to protect his rating for a crack at the Aintree spectacular so he won't be seen until after the weights have been published in February. National success would complete a notable treble for Junior as he has the distinction of being a winner at Royal Ascot in 2010 and at the Cheltenham Festival this year. "He has definitely got no more poundage up his sleeve," said Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing. "His mark of 153 needs protecting 100% for the Grand National. I think he's badly handicapped for it and at the top end of where he can be. "We'll just wait until the weights come out for the National and then run him once or twice. "He'll probably run somewhere in February, then a race at the Cheltenham Festival, possibly even over hurdles, then on to Aintree. "Although he's back at the yard, they are not doing too much with him and you won't see him on the track until February."
