Beau could go for Scottish National

Knockara Beau is to be aimed at the Coral Scottish Grand National following his creditable effort in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup. Trainer George Charlton is keen on giving his stable star a try in the prestigious handicap chase on April 21 over an extended four miles after he took sixth place behind Synchronised on Friday. "He's come out of the race fine, not a problem. He ran very well, I was pleased and he managed to stay on into sixth place," said the Northumberland-based handler. "He just went through a flat spot in the race but that's as good as he is and he's won another £6,700 for the owners to keep everybody happy. "He's not going to Aintree. We're aiming for the Scottish National with him. "I think he'll stay the trip no bother and he'll go on just about any ground. "It just depends what the handicapper does with him after his run in the Gold Cup. Whether he goes up a few pounds or down a few. "We'll have to wait. He was nearly 20 lengths behind the winner so we'll see, but Ayr's the plan."
