Yorkshire Cup the principal target for popular stayer

Blue Bajan is set to make his reappearance in the Yorkshire Cup at York on May 18. The 10-year-old provided fledgling trainer David O'Meara with his first Pattern race success when winning the Henry II Stakes at Sandown last season and was beaten just half a length by Duncan in the Group Two Yorkshire Cup in 2011 and O'Meara is hoping for another bold display. "Blue Bajan has the Yorkshire Cup as his aim in May," said the North Yorkshire handler.

Career Highlight

"I wasn't allowed to send Blue Bajan hurdling this winter, which is a shame given that he beat Overturn at Goodwood. "He'd have been a bit of a snip in the County (Hurdle) - he's only rated in the 140s now. To be fair, he's broken down twice and the owners, the Hollowoods, daren't risk him again. "He surprised me winning a Group race. I was looking at races like the Ebor and Northumberland Plate but the owners wanted to win a Group race and they were right. "His Sandown win is probably the highlight of my career so far but from Blue Bajan' point of view I think the Goodwood Cup (beaten half a length in third) was probably a better run as he gave them all a penalty. "He's 10 now, though, so I don't know how many his age win Group races."
