Soft ground could see filly re-routed to Royal Ascot

Clive Cox could change running plans for Winter's Night and send his filly to Royal Ascot rather than York if the ground is soft enough. The Lambourn handler will give her a speculative entry in next Wednesday's Group Two Windsor Forest Stakes serious consideration should it continue to rain at the Berkshire course. Cox accepts the Listed Ganton Stakes at York on Saturday is more her level and is hopeful at some stage Winter's Night can open her Listed race account after being placed in two previous attempts. "She's in at Royal Ascot and is also entered in a Listed race at York at the weekend," he told At The Races. "She pulled a shoe off in Ireland last time, which didn't help her performance. "She finished second first time out this year and I hope she's not far off making a successful return to Listed company. "It would be a big step up in Ascot, but if the rain keeps coming I'm pleased that we're well covered with entries."
