Change of headgear option for veteran campaigner

Roger Charlton is set to give Genki another opportunity in Group One company in next month's Darley July Cup at Newmarket. Not always the easiest of rides but an ever-present in big sprints for the last few seasons, the eight-year-old was given blinkers rather than his usual visor when finishing 11th of 14 in Saturday's Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. "I did not expect Genki to be only beaten six and a half lengths by Black Caviar, it was certainly a very dramatic race for those that had backed her at odds-on," the Beckhampton handler told www.rogercharlton.com. "Genki again applied the handbrake in the closing stages but we will try again in the July Cup and hope to kid him into running a better race." Genki was sixth behind Dream Ahead in last year's renewal and went on to post fourth-placed finishes in the Prix Maurice de Gheest and Haydock Sprint Cup.
