Evergreen eight-year-old has Bronze target

Cheveton will once again go for September glory at Ayr as he bids to win at the Western meeting for the third successive season, this time in the William Hill Ayr Bronze Cup. The eight-year-old won this race two years ago and moved into the Silver version 12 months ago when he was successful again. He is without a win this season and has dropped in the handicap to a mark of 79, his lowest rating for over four years, but he did show signs of a revival at Ffos Las last time out. "He seems to like it up there but I've no idea why," said trainer Richard Price. "He doesn't mind soft ground and he always seems to get it. He'll appreciate it but whether the draw is right I've no idea. With all the three big races on the same day this year we won't get much of an idea. "He's fit and well but according to the handicapper he's not the horse he was, and of course he's another year older, which slows us all down. "Last time out he showed a bit more and he's not had much luck this season, you only need to get half stopped in these races and your chance has gone."
