Paul Townend is excited by the prospect of teaming up with Pique Sous in the Guinness Galway Hurdle at the Ballybrit track on Thursday week.
The grey is champion jumps trainer Willie Mullins' only entry in the valuable handicap and Townend has come in for the plum ride as stable jockey Ruby Walsh is sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Pique Sous will be seeking to make amends for being pulled up in the race 12 months ago when the ground was too soft for him.
The seven-year-old is a different proposition on a faster surface, as he showed when winning the Queen Alexandra Stakes on the Flat at Royal Ascot last month.
"He's exciting now and fingers crossed. It's a competitive race and you need a lot of luck, but he's a good ride to have in it and I'm looking forward to riding him," Townend told At The Races.
"It was just too soft for him last year. Hopefully it stays lively and he turns up and gives a good account of himself."
