Glens Melody, narrow winner of the OLBG Mares' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, has been retired.

The Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old took full advantage of the dramatic last-flight fall of stablemate Annie Power to hold off Polly Peachum in a pulsating finish on the opening day of the meeting.

Annie Power had been well clear at the time of her mishap, while the victory saw Glens Melody go one better than 12 months previously when she had been a three-quarter-length second to another Mullins' runner in multiple race winner Quevega.

Mullins tweeted: "After speaking with her owner, Glens Melody has been retired today and will probably go to Burgage Stud to be covered by Shantou."
