Improving colt could be Turf dark horse

Dangerous Midge will head a small but select Breeders' Cup team for Brian Meehan at Churchill Downs next week. The improving four-year-old is in tip-top shape ahead of his bid for glory in the Turf, where is set to meet Derby and Arc hero Workforce among others. "We're very pleased with him. He was impressive at Newbury and he's come on a lot," Meehan told At The Races on Tuesday. "He's a horse that's improving. He's had lots of time and he's got the perfect profile for the race. "He's got lots of speed, he quickens and he travels. I think the track will suit him."

Options

Theyskens' Theory, Quiet Oasis and Mantoba are other Meehan possibles for the annual championship fixture in Kentucky. "Theyskens' Theory has been entered in the Turf and the Dirt race but I think she's more likely to go for the Juvenile on the Dirt. She's really well," Meehan added. "We were tempted to go for the Rockfel but this made more sense. She's bred for it and I think it will really suit her. "Quiet Oasis is a definite for the Fillies' Turf. She's lightly raced and she keeps getting better. "Mantoba is a real interesting horse. At the moment there's a question mark about whether he'll get a run or not." With stable jockey Martin Dwyer sidelined through injury, Meehan is hoping Frankie Dettori will fill the void. "Martin made a decision about 10 days ago saying he wouldn't be fit enough to ride them, which is the way with Martin," he said. "At the moment we are hoping Frankie will ride them but we'll wait and see."
