Pat Fahy is considering a tilt at the Galway Plate with Morning Assembly following his creditable effort in the Grand National at Aintree last weekend.
The Grade One-winning gelding was off the track for the best part of two years prior to making his comeback at the start of 2016 and while he has failed to hit the bullseye in four subsequent starts, he has run some excellent races in defeat.
Runner-up finishes at Fairyhouse and Gowran Park teed him up for a trip to the Cheltenham Festival, where he ran a blinder to finish fourth.
He was well-backed for the world's most famous steeplechase on Merseyside, but after jumping and travelling well for a long way, he eventually weakened to finish a well-beaten eighth.
Fahy is keen to come back in trip with his stable star and has identified this summer's Ballybrit feature as a logical target.
"He's fine after the National, and he doesn't have any nicks or cuts. He jumped well and travelled well," said Fahy.
"Maybe if the ground was better he might have got home a bit better but it looked like he just didn't get home.
"Maybe he's not a dour stayer like we thought he was. He beat Don Cossack as a novice and he ran a cracker first time out this season at Fairyhouse over two miles and five (furlongs).
"He won't run again for a while. I'll have to have a chat with the owner but he may have a shot at the Galway Plate."
