Alan King could run last week's York winner Oceane in the Cesarewitch Trial before tackling the main race itself.

The progressive four-year-old is Sky Bet's 14/1 third co-favourite in the ante-post lists for the Betfred Cesarewitch on October 8 following his win on the Knavesmire and King could give the grey a run in the trial over the same course and distance three weeks earlier.

A rise of 5lbs for last week's win in the two mile handicap has left Oceane on a rating of 95, 11lbs higher than he started the Flat season following a successful winter hurdling and King now has his sights set on the big Newmarket prize that he landed with Grumeti 12 months ago.

"Oceane did the job well at York and has come back A1, and we still hope to run him in the Cesarewitch as it's a £250,000 pot and we enjoyed such a fantastic day last year with Grumeti," he told his website.

"Oceane is very much ground dependent and punters should be aware of that, and Max (McNeill - owner) and I have taken the view that whenever the ground is fast and a suitable race comes up we should run," he added.

"The Cesarewitch Trial is worth £50,000 so is a valuable prize in its own right, and if conditions are in our favour at Newmarket on September 17 he will probably run there."

Grumeti could also take his chance in the trial as he might need to run well enough to go up a few pounds in the ratings so as to ensure that he gets a chance to defend his big-race crown.
