Tregoning has Angel gameplan

Bronze Angel: Big run on the cards at Newbury

A trip to Newmarket or Ascot could be on the agenda for Bronze Angel following his creditable run at Royal Ascot.

The five-year-old was rated 101 after winning the 2012 Cambridgeshire, but an extended period on the sidelines coupled with some lacklustre subsequent efforts had seen Marcus Tregoning's charge slip back to a mark of 94 in Berkshire.

His revised rating allied to his favoured fast ground saw Bronze Angel spark back into life, finishing a narrow fourth in Buckingham Palace Stakes over seven furlongs. The Dark Angel gelding now looks likely to stick at that distance, with the 666bet Bunbury Cup at Newmarket on July 12 and the International Stakes at Ascot on July 26 two possible options.

Tregoning said: "He ran a very good race but he had his ground this time - he really is a fast-ground horse.

"The trip probably wasn't ideal as he would like a little further but we were obviously very pleased with his run. "We haven't quite decided where we go next. He might turn up in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket or there's a £150,000 handicap at Ascot we could have a look at.

"The long-term plan would be to get him into the Cambridgeshire. "He has slipped down the ratings a little but he still retains plenty of ability and must be competitive in these big handicaps."
