Alderwood: In good shape
Alderwood hopes to get his chasing career back on track in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase at Fairyhouse on Saturday.
The Tom Mullins-trained eight-year-old won the County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in the spring and went on to claim major novice events at Fairyhouse and Punchestown in April.
He was in the process of running creditably on his debut over the larger obstacles when slipping up after the final fence at Navan last month and the trainer does not believe that has knocked his stable star's confidence.
"We always look forward to him running and he seems in good shape," said Mullins.
"Hopefully things go better than they did the last day. He seems to have come out of that fall on the flat at Navan none the worse and he's in good shape.
"He jumps well and the ground should be all right for him, although I think we'd all prefer it a bit better than it is at the moment.
"It's a nice little race and there are two or three in there with a bit of form. We'll see how we get on."
Alderwood faces 10 rivals over two miles and a furlong, with Darwins Fox, Star Neuville and Terminal perhaps his biggest rivals.
