Simenon: Bids to bounce back

Simenon aims to put last month's below par run at Punchestown behind him in the Grade Two Tara Hurdle at Navan on Sunday.

Willie Mullins switched his five-year-old back to the Flat this summer, a move which worked out fantastically well as Simenon won both the Ascot Stakes and the Queen Alexandra Stakes during a superb Royal meeting.

He was the 1-3 favourite back over timber on his latest start but having pulled for his head early, he finished a well-beaten fourth.

Mullins said: "He was obviously disappointing last time and he was just too keen on his first run back over hurdles having been running on the Flat.

"We're just hoping he can run a better race tomorrow, so we'll see what happens."

Simenon comes out as the best horse at the weights in Sunday's two-and-a-half-mile contest, but will still have to be on his game if he is to claim victory.

Whatuthink claimed the notable scalp of Voler La Vedette in the Lismullen Hurdle over course and distance last month, while Sailors Warn, Maller Tree, Muirhead and the unexposed Un Beau Matin add further strength in depth.
