Tropics (L): Going for a big-race double in the Stewards' Cup

Trainer Dean Ivory reports ante-post favourite Tropics in "cracking form" as he bids for a quickfire double in the Robins Farm Racing Stewards' Cup at Goodwood.

The five-year-old is making a swift return to action after gaining a hard-fought short-head success in the Sky Bet Dash at York last week.

That was the Speightstown gelding's fourth win in just nine career starts and he has now incurred a 6lb penalty for the six-furlong cavalry charge.

While Ivory admits a quick comeback with a penalty is probably not ideal, Tropics is firing on all cylinders as he tries to emulate Hoof It, who did the York-Goodwood double in 2011.

He said: "It is very exciting, but we're also a bit nervous as you just don't want anything to go wrong in a big race like this.

"He's in cracking form at home, he did a nice piece (of work) on Thursday and I was very pleased.

"He's a very uncomplicated horse and has such a lovely nature that you can do anything with him.

"The quick return is a concern as he did have a hardy sort of race at York last week and he had to battle in the last half-furlong or so, but he seems to have come out of the race well.

"I would ideally have liked a week or two between the races but you've got to go with what you see and he looks well."
