Dynaste followed in the footsteps of stablemate Grands Crus with victory in the Steel Plate And Sections Novices' Chase at Cheltenham.

David Pipe's grey, sent off at 7/4, moved smoothly throughout on his chasing debut and took up the running with a fine leap at the final fence.

Jockey Tom Scudamore only had to push the six-year-old out under hands and heels riding to record an impressive victory, building on his excellent hurdling year last season where he chased home Big Buck's on three occasions.

Pipe won the race 12 months ago with Grands Crus, the current favourite for Saturday's Paddy Power Gold Cup.

Scudamore said: "We've always known he was a very good horse.

"You can't fail to have been impressed by that. It was probably more of a speed test and that suited him."

Pipe said: "It was nice to get it over with. "He jumped well - they didn't go that quick - and he's quickened up well. He looked like he won a little bit cosily in the end.

"He's French and he's neat - we were pleased with his schooling at home. This is not his Gold Cup today and I'm sure he'll improve for it.

"We were getting weight off Fingal Bay, and Fingal Bay might be more of a three-miler. Does he need many (races)? He didn't look too bad there, jumping wise."Philip Hobbs' Fingal Bay (5/4 favourite) was prominent throughout and tried to burn his rivals off turning for home but couldn't shake them off and was well-held in second at the line.

Paul Nicholls' Unioniste helped set the early fractions but could only finish third, with Gordon Elliott's Carlito Brigante fourth in the two and a half mile contest.

The five runners were completed by Thehillofuisneach who was pulled up by Tony McCoy before the third-last fence.

Bookmakers were impressed and were swift to cut the winner for the RSA Chase in March, with Sky Bet going 6/1 (from 8s) about David Pipe's exciting youngster.
