River Maigue on his way to an impressive success
The well-backed 4/6 favourite River Maigue routed his rivals in the opening William Hill - No.1 Downloaded Betting App Novices' Hurdle at Kempton.
Nicky Henderson's charge was always cantering in the two mile contest but momentarily seemed to be unsettled when the Rysbrack hung towards him going to the second last.
However Barry Geraghty soon took his partner to the front and he settled matters very quickly.
New Year's Eve (9/2) came through for second but he was seven lengths adrift of the winner at the line with Kings Lad a further six lengths away in third.
Sky Bet inserted River Maigue into their Supreme Novices' market at 12/1.
"It was a very good run at Cheltenham first time and he takes an awful lot of work," said Henderson.
"I know he has won a point-to-point but he doesn't want to go further than two miles at the moment. We'll potter along and see what we do."
