Across The Bay (right) leads his rivals over the last
Across The Bay toughed it out in tremendous fashion to get the best of a thrilling battle for the Betfred Mobile Rendlesham Hurdle at Haydock Park.
Heading to the final flight in the three-mile contest there was little more than a length between four of the field.
But it was frontrunner Across The Bay (9/1) who kept on determinedly under Henry Brooke to take the Grade Two contest by a length and a quarter from Trustan Times.
Cross Kennon was close-up in third, while Kentford Grey Lady, who travelled powerfully into contention between the last two, perhaps failed to quite see out the trip in the testing conditions and was back in fourth.
"He's a bit older and bit wiser these days, but he's there when you need him. If you keep asking, he'll keep finding," said Brooke.
"He does seem to be still improving."
Sky Bet quote Across The Bay at 33/1 from 40/1 for the world's most famous jumps race.
