Willie Mullins: Trainer of Annie Power
Annie Power posted her sixth success in a row as she saw off her five rivals in the Grade 2 paddypower.com Novice Hurdle at Naas.
Tony McCoy attempted to control the race aboard the well-supported favourite, Defy Logic, and as they rounded the home turn, the 17-times British champion looked as if he had timed his fractions right.
Having raced just off what was no more than a modest pace, both Annie power and Don Cossack came to challenge the long time leader and it was Willie Mullins' mare that showed the greater resolution.
A delighted Mullins said: "I didn't know how good she was and we came here to find out. I still don't know how good she is!
"She has the size and scope to be anything. She looks like she'll be a chaser in time and I hope she'll improve and keep getting stronger.
"With a summer's grass she can do nothing but improve. We'll probably look at the Grade One mares' race at Fairyhouse for her."
Defy Logic's trainer Paul Nolan said: "I think we were beaten by an exceptional mare. It's only his second run over hurdles and Tony (McCoy) said he was a bit green.
"It's only the second time he's been off the bridle in his life. We'll have to have a chat with the lads and see where we go next."
Sky Bet made the winner a 20/1 chance from 40/1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle.
