Surour (centre) bursts through to win.
The David Simcock-trained Suruor got the right breaks at the right time when running out a narrow winner of the XL Insurance Stakes.
The three-year-old was given a patient ride by Jimmy Fortune, who gradually allowed his mount to make ground on the leaders up the straight.
Once a gap came between horses, the 9-2 chance was more than willing to take it.
Suruor galloped right to the line to hold off Shamwari Lodge, the 4-1 favourite, by three-quarters of a length.
Simcock said: "We've never run him on soft ground before so it was a bit of an unknown.
"He almost wants holding on to longer than that, but the gap came and he had to go for it.
"He's progressed and progressed and his work at home has got better.
"He seems a very happy horse but he has strengthened up.
"I think he'll be a better horse with another year under his belt."
