Mac Love defied his outsider tag to provide trainer Steff Liddiard with another career highlight as he registered his second Group race win of 2009 at Salisbury.

The evergreen veteran provided Liddiard with a first Group success at Epsom on Derby weekend and after finding the company too hot at Royal Ascot, he struck again in the totesport.com Sovereign Stakes.

Despite claiming Confront's scalp at Epsom, the latter was made the 4-5 favourite, while Mac Love was widely disregarded at odds of 25-1.

The old warrior knew nothing of his price though, and Micky Fenton superbly gathered him up to come from last to first and again relegate Confront to the runner-up spot.

Liddiard said: "I am so in love with him - what is he like!

"To have two Group winners in a season is something else and it is hard to believe he is an eight-year-old.

"My horses only work in twos and threes and they only hack, which he loves and my owners get such value for money when they run.

"The Supreme Stakes at Goodwood, which he won five years ago, is an option now, but that is over seven furlongs.

"He gets the mile so well now that I may try him over a mile and a quarter at Windsor in a Group race if the ground comes up quick."
