Balthazaar's Gift (red) swoops for victory.
Balthazaar's Gift secured his first Group-race success in over two years with an impressive display in the CGA Hungerford Stakes.
The six-year-old, having just his fourth start for trainer Clive Cox, was sent off at 10-1 having been narrowly beaten on his last couple of starts.
After travelling strongly at the rear of the field, the entire showed a fine turn of foot to sweep to the lead inside the final furlong and careered away to score by three lengths from Regal Parade.
The disappointment of the race was odds-on favourite Evasive who travelled nicely in the early parts of the contest on his first start for Godolphin, before dropping away tamely once the pace quickened.
Winning jockey Philip Robinson said: "It's the first time I've ridden him but Clive knows his horses so well and tells you about every little quirk they have.
"Today he's got this horse spot on."
Cox said: "Many thanks to Rod Simpson who trained him in Dubai and suggested he came to us.
"I think he's a top-class horse and we shall now look at the Group One Prix de la Foret at Longchamp (October 3) with him.
"All credit to Philip as well for giving him the perfect ride."
