Eve Johnson Houghton's Yurituni made a winning handicap debut in the Watt Fences Racecourse Supplies Stakes.

Carrying the colours of leading National Hunt owner Harry Findlay, the juvenile was sent off a well-backed 12-1 chance having hinted at ability in three maiden outings.

The youngster was always well to the fore in the hands of Silvestre De Sousa and once asked for maximum effort, the filly found plenty to get up and beat Bond Fastrac by a short head.

Johnson Houghton said: "This is my first winner at the course and I'm delighted, she was brilliant, really good.

"My horses have not been quite right and I was a bit worried beforehand, but the handicapper has been quite nice to her.

"This is Silvestre's first ride for us, we were looking for a jockey who could do a light weight and his named jumped out at us.

"I'm very pleased that Harry has sent a horse to us and today was the plan, but there is a fillies' nursery at Doncaster next month, so we will have a look at that."

Geoff Oldroyd, trainer of the runner-up, added: "I'm delighted with him. He had plenty of weight with the rating he was given but he's done well.

"He'll go to the big two-year-old race at Redcar in October and probably race once before then."
