Burning Thread put up a fine performance under William Buick when making every yard of the running in the totesport.com Scurry Stakes at Sandown.

Sent off at 17-2 on the back of a win in a Beverley conditions event, Tim Etherington's gelding got off to a fine start and refused to give up the lead.

Above Limits, Duchess Dora and well-supported favourite Reignier all threw down strong challenges inside the final furlong, but Burning Thread kept finding to pass the post half a length ahead of the latter.

Etherington said: "He was really, really green as a two-year-old so I only ran him once, but he's been working so well this season and after he won at Beverley, I thought it was worth coming for this.

"The draw has been a big help but I do think he's a very nice horse.

"He'll probably have a holiday now."
