Radium: Winning start
Radium made the perfect start to his chasing career with a pleasing win in the Ascot Underwriting Beginners' Chase.
A decent hurdler, he was second to the reopposing Pause And Clause in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham before disappointing at the Punchestown Festival.
Tony McCoy had one or two hair-raising moments aboard the 2-1 favourite but after deciding to move away from Pause and Clause on the inside, his partner ran out a three-and-a-half length winner from Othermix.
"Tony was pleased with him," said winning trainer Nicky Henderson.
"Don't forget he's French-bred and you could see what AP was doing, no offence to Pause And Clause's connections but we didn't really want to be near him the way he was jumping.
"For his first time over fences I was very happy with him.
"I don't know where we'll go next. Two and a half miles is probably his trip but you could probably go either side of it."
