Brampour staked his JCB Triumph Hurdle claim in an incident-packed Bravo Company 40 Cdo Royal Marines Maiden Hurdle at Taunton.

The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding looked to be on his way to a battling victory when taking up the running two hurdles from home.

Although the front-running Trop Fort was trying to rally, and First In The Queue was running on well, the race took a turn for the worse when David Pipe's gelding fell at the last flight.

In doing so he brought down First In The Queue, the mount of Tony McCoy, with both jockeys hobbling away after a period on the ground.

The winner, sent off at 2-1, had made several mistakes throughout but jockey Harry Skelton looked to have matters in hand before the drama unfurled.

"It was good for him to get his head in front and he has obviously improved from his last run," said Skelton.

"I don't know how strong the race was but he stayed on from the last and did it well.

"He was running over a mile and seven (furlongs) on the Flat, so he is a horse who obviously stays well and he was just getting going after the last really.

"Where he goes next is up to connections but he jumped well today and I was happy with him."

In the end Clowance House (13-2) ran on for a distant second, with Bold Identity (100-1) back in third.
