Sagramor: Britannia Stakes winner
The well-fancied Sagramor won the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot for Hughie Morrison and Nicky Mackay.
The ante-post favourite was usurped as the jolly by the well-backed Chain Lightning but was still sent off 8-1 second best by punters.
It looked as though 100-1 chance The Tichborne and Belgian Bill (10-1) would fight out the finish on the stands' rail but Sagramor stormed home down the middle of the track under a nicely-timed ride from Mackay.
Cai Shen (20-1) also finished well under Ryan Moore and was just half a length back in second on the line with The Tichborne just a head back in third.
Belgian Bill was involved in a photo for third but lost out by a nose while Trade Storm finished fifth.
"This one was a plot," revealed Morrison. "The owners, Melksham Craic, have been planning this since I bought Jasmick (dam) in 1999.
"I bought her for £6,000 and the sire (Pastoral Pursuits) for £20,000.
"It's just a fantastic day. I thought we'd had our day at Haydock when we went up 8lb but he was very gutsy.
"I didn't read the race very well, I thought he was in a hole but he got out."
Mackay said: "My first ride here was a Royal Ascot winner (Admiral, 2004 King George V Stakes) and I've had to wait since then for another one.
"It's absolutely fantastic and I'd like to thank Mr Morrison.
"A lot of people know how much this will mean to me.
"A few years ago I was really struggling but I went to Mr (John) Gosden and things started picking up."
