Brown Panther gave trainer Tom Dascombe and jockey Richard Kingscote their second winner at the meeting with an emphatic victory in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The 4-1 joint-favourite made eyecatching progress before the turn for home, after which he stormed into the lead three furlongs out.

He was shadowed by Well Sharp but quickly shrugged off that rival and galloped on strongly to score by six lengths from Census, who overtook Well Sharp by a length for third, with Communicator fourth.

It was a deeply emotional success for Manchester United forward Michael Owen, who bred the winner and owns him in the name of Owen Promotions.

Owen has invested greatly into Manor House stables in Cheshire, from where Dascombe trains, and was moved to tears by the victory.

Classy

He said: "It's a bit different owning a horse to win at Ascot to breeding one.

"This is a different horse to what we've had so far.

"It doesn't get any better - this is where you want to end up."

Dascombe added: "He's been in the German Derby since day one, and the St Leger is possibly not a ridiculous idea.

"We know he stays, but we'll enjoy this first."

Kingscote said: "I was in front far too long, but he kept pulling out. "He was passing them so easy going down the back I didn't want to disappoint him so I let him roll on.

"He's a bull of a horse, he's always been going the right way but we don't know what went wrong first time out.

"Since then he has been wonderful."

Kingscote and Dascombe on Wednesday teamed up to take to the Sandringham Handicap with Rhythm Of Light.

Delighted

Owen continued: "I bought Manor House about five years ago and Tom moved in about two years ago.

"Tom used Richard down south and he brought him in, and you can see why.

"We've gone from just a few horses to training over 100 and Richard is integral to the team, you could see that with the winner yesterday.

"It was a time for patience last year and that patience has paid off and we are reaping the rewards this year.

"I'm delighted for Tom. Everyone knows he can train, and now we are getting the rewards we knew were possible.

"The thing with racing is there's nothing I can do about it.

"When I play football I don't get nervous because I can do something about it. With racing you are in the lap of the gods.

"I don't deserve any credit. Obviously I've invested a lot of money, but it's all down to Tom, Richard and the staff - I'm just the owner, but I'm delighted to have such a nice horse.

"There's not many better feelings than this."
