Night Carnation could be bound for some of Europe's top sprints after claiming an impressive victory in the Coral Charge at Sandown on Saturday.

Her victory in the Group Three contest initiated a near 500-1 treble for trainer Andrew Balding, who has always held the filly in high regard.

It was easy to see why following a handicap success at this track and a smooth conditions race triumph at York.

She had let her supporters down when returned to Sandown in Listed class on her previous appearance, but a more favourable draw turned around her fortunes.

The 11-2 shot was drawn nine of nine on her latest visit to Esher, but this time broke from gate two and was always travelling kindly for Jimmy Fortune.

Hardened older sprinters like Kingsgate Native and Triple Aspect were never able to keep tabs on the three-year-old filly and she quickened up smartly in the last of the five furlongs to beat Beyond Desire by a comfortable length and three-quarters.

"She's a very good filly. She was undone by the draw last time, but that was impressive," said Balding.

"She'll have a summer break now as she's not in at Goodwood or the Nunthorpe and we'll work back from the Prix de l'Abbaye."
