Samitar: Justified favouritism
Samitar won the £300,000 Tattersalls Millions 2yo Fillies' Trophy at Newmarket.
Mick Channon's Albany Stakes winner had narrowly been touched off in a similar race on the July course earlier in the season but gained compensation on the Rowley Mile track under Sam Hitchcott.
The 5-4 favourite was in the front rank throughout and ran on strongly in the closing stages to prevail by a length and a quarter from Hazel Lavery in second.
Richard Hannon gained some valuable prize money towards his bid for the trainer's title in saddling both the third home Glee and the fourth Tina's Spirit who was doing her best work in the closing stages.
Channon's son, also Mick, said of the 5-4 favourite: "We know the family well as we have trained many of her half-brothers and sisters - all of them thrive on racing.
"She is great as she is so versatile and can run from the front and the back, and Sam knows her well as he rides her at home, so he gave her a great race today.
"She looks the type to go for the Guineas next year."
