Ruby Walsh lifted 10-3 favourite Aerial to a thrilling win in the Barbury International Supporting Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Newbury.

A whole host of horses had chances going to the final fence and Dan Breen (18-1) looked to have taken a decisive advantage when going a length clear soon after.

However Walsh conjured a strong finish from the eventual winner who was in front two strides before the line for a short-head success.

Rileyev (14-1) was another to finish well, a further length away in third.

"This has been a great race for us," said Nicholls. "He puts a lot into it so he needs a nice gap between his races.

"Although he has won left-handed here on a nice galloping track, Ruby said he's better going right-handed.

"We'll either leave him now, as he's only six, or maybe look for something at Punchestown."
