Brae Hill (L): on his way to Lincoln glory

Brae Hill went one place better than last year when landing the William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster.

Trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Tony Hamilton, the six-year-old (25-1) hit the front with two furlongs to run and clung on in the final yards from the fast-finishing Mull Of Killough (10-1) who got within a short-head.

Fury (8-1) ran on well for third, with top-weight Edinburgh Knight (11-1) narrowly back in fourth.

Favourite Eton Forever (11-2) had every chance but weakened late on into fifth, Askaud took sixth, whilst Barren Brook stayed on late in the day for seventh.

Hamilton said: "He stuck his head down and galloped to the line. I did think I had won.

"I've been with Richard about 10 years, we've always got on, and with Paul (Hanagan) getting the big job he's got (retained rider to Sheikh Hamdan) I might get a few more opportunities, we'll have to see."

Hamilton added: "It's the biggest race I've ever won. "Marwan (Dr Marwan Koukash, owner) was keen on me to make it and there wasn't much pace early.

"It could not have worked out any better."

Fahey said: "I've wanted to win this race, but felt I was destined to never do it. I think I have had three seconds and plenty of others placed.

"It's nice to beat one of my old horses (Mull Of Killough), I don't think I would have been able to stand it if he had beaten me.

"He's very hairy and hasn't come in his coat, so when you hear trainers talking about that it just shows it's a load of rubbish.

"It's great for Tony, and I am lucky that I have got some very good jockeys.

"He's owned by Marwan so all roads will lead to Chester."
