The Gold Cheongsam: Landed the valuable contest
The Gold Cheongsam justified her short price to land the Weatherbys Insurance 300,000 2-Y-O Stakes at Doncaster.
It was an emotional victory for her Liverpool-born jockey Franny Norton a day after the verdict which cleared Liverpool fans of blame regarding the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, Norton was close to tears.
Allotted just 8s 1lb, lightweight Norton enabled the filly to win for the third time on the spin by a neck from the fast-finishing Hajam.
"She had to battle real hard to get out of a pocket," said Norton.
"That victory isn't for me, it's for the Hillsborough 96 and to do it in red and white silks makes it special.
"Faster ground would have suited her better but she does everything right.
"I was screaming for the line at the end, though."
