Baileys Jubilee: Finished a close second in France
Mark Johnston's Baileys Jubilee finished second in the Group Three Prix de Cabourg - Jockey Club de Turquie at Deauville on Sunday.
Johnston had enjoyed juvenile Listed race success at the French track on Saturday but had to settle for minor honours in the six furlong contest.
Baileys Jubilee, a winner of a Listed race at Vichy earlier in the month, was stepping back up to six furlongs for just the second time in her career with all three of her victories having been achieved at the minimum.
Ioritz Mendizabal, who partnered Discernable for Johnston the previous day, launched a strong challenge in the final furlong but the pair couldn't get past the Hamdan Al Maktoum owned Mazameer and Thierry Jarnet, failing by a short-head with the front two clear.
The winner, trained by Freddie Head, was winning for the second time in three starts and has plenty to live up to if he's to follow in the footsteps of last year's Prix de Cabourg winner, Dabirsim, who ended the season as one of Europe's leading juveniles.
