Hoyam: Scored under a confident Jamie Spencer
Hoyam was given a typically confident ride by Jamie Spencer on route to winning what looked a competitive Julia Graves Roses Stakes at York.
Michael Bell's 3-1 chance looked to have nowhere to go a little over a furlong out, with Spencer sat last and behind a wall of horses.
Favourite Fire Eyes looked the likely winner when taking a couple of lengths out of the field, but Hoyam fairly sprinted down the centre of the track once switched wide and was well on top at the end.
Spencer said: "I was following the David Barron horse (Cosmic Chatter) as I thought he was my biggest danger, but he nearly took me out of the race.
"The second has run a very big race, because my horse had had four runs and was far more experienced. I would say they are two very smart two-year-olds."
