Moonlight Cloud: Proved her stamina for a mile with victory in the Moulin
Moonlight Cloud was a game winner from Farhh in the Qatar Prix Du Moulin De Longchamp on Sunday.
The mile contest was always likely to develop into a tactical contest with just the four runners going to post and it was no surprise to see Frankie Dettori and Farhh make the running.
Dettori gradually wound up the pace aboard the son of Pivotal, who was last seen chasing home Frankel over 10 furlongs in the Juddmonte International at York, as the pair looked to stretch the stamina of the filly.
Thierry Jarnet was soon upsides as they raced in earnest in the straight and the daughter of Invincible Spirit had to dig deep in order to get the better of their sustained duel.
This was a first victory over a mile for Freddie Head's charge who had met with severe inteference on her previous start when fourth to Excelebration, last year's Moulin winner, in the Jacques le Marois.
As for Farhh, Saeed bin Suroor's charge has come a long way in a short time this season but had to settle for his fourth successive second place finish in a Group One.
The pair pulled a long way clear of Sarkiyla with the Alan McCabe-trained Caspar Netscher last of the four runners.
Head said: "She's wonderful, how tough she is, she's a fighter.
"She will miss the Foret and go to Santa Anita and she could maybe stay in training at five but I'll have to talk to George Strawbridge about that.
"Six furlongs is too sharp for her, I think that's why she got beaten at Ascot. Jarnet told me that the last 400 metres they galloped. It was a real mile."
Simon Crisford said: "He's run well again but he was always going to be vulnerable at this distance here.
"I think the course and the ground were a bit quick for him and he will either run in the Champion Stakes or the QEII at Ascot."
