Michel Maci's experienced grey Zinabaa proved the answer to this year's Prix Daniel Wildenstein at Longchamp after his fifth-placed finish 12 months ago.

Zinabaa has often advertised his capabilities in soft ground, such as in a Group Two at Saint-Cloud in May, and relished the particularly testing conditions once again despite a 111-day layoff.

Ex-Sir Michael Stoute horse Dux Scholar, now owned by Chechen Ramzan Kadyrov, burst clear in the home straight but Gerald Mosse bided his time and the grey cut him down to score by three-quarters of a length.

"He always runs well fresh and we might look at the Group Three Prix Perth at Saint-Cloud, then maybe go abroad next year," said Macé.

Andrew Balding's Highland Knight weakened to fifth and the trainer's wife Anna Lisa said: "We supplemented him for the race so it's disappointing. He just didn't handle the ground."
