Mull Of Killough: Gained deserved compensation at Newmarket
Mull Of Killough gained compensation for some high-profile near misses when winning the Darley Stakes at Newmarket.
Jane Chapple-Hyam's charge had finished second in both the Lincoln and the Cambridgeshire this season so could hardly have said to be winning out of turn in the nine furlong Group Three contest.
Always to the fore from a good draw, Joseph O'Brien took up the running from Labarinto inside the final quarter of a mile and ran on strongly to score by three lengths and a length from Saigon and Stipulate.
Bronze Angel, the winner of the Cambridgeshire, only found daylight too light in the day by which stage the winner had flown.
Chapple-Hyam said: "He's an unlucky horse, having been second in two major handicaps, so he deserved this.
"He has a lot of problems with his feet but he's had a really good run from the Cambridgeshire to now.
"He'll be too high for the Lincoln so we'll maybe look at the Winter Derby."
